So much of personal finance today has become “me” focused. It’s all about ME taking charge of my money. It’s all about “ME” getting out of debt. It’s all about “ME” building wealth so that I can live the life I desire.
Don’t get me wrong. Taking charge of your finances, getting out of debt, and building wealth are all worthy endeavors that we need to pursue. But we cannot, and should not, stop there.
Personal Finance Secret – It Starts with Purpose
One of our major focuses in life should be blessing others in need from the abundance we enjoy. In the book, The Richest Man In Babylon, we are admonished to give 10% to charitable causes to help those less fortunate than us. However, the more profitable we become, the more we should be able to give.
One of my mentors, Jim Rohn, aptly stated that there is no reason we should not give away 30, 40, or 50% of the money we earn because we can live very comfortably on what we have left. I would add to Jim’s statement by saying that sacrificial giving involves going above and beyond to bless others and meet crucial needs – which will lead to us being tremendously blessed, many times to the point of overflowing joy.
Why not plan to make giving part of your wealth-building plan? I promise that doing so will bless you beyond measure.
