There is an old adage that says, “Insanity is doing the same thing, over and over, and expecting to get different results”. Another one concisely states, “If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten”. Both of these are very true statements, and they indicate a posture of standing still, because they ultimately lead to failure.
As you live your life and pursue success — however you choose to define it — you must refuse to stand still. Life moves forward more quickly than we think, so standing still becomes, in effect, moving backwards. Our goal, therefore, needs to be to constantly move forward in a disciplined, consistent manner.
I encourage your to make these two words — discipline and consistency — your mantra throughout 2022. In order to help you better understand what I mean, here are my definitions of the two words for you to consider:
Discipline: Getting yourself to take a needed step or action toward your goals one time.
Consistency: Performing that discipline day after day until it becomes a natural, habitual part of your life.
Success consists of knowing where you are going, knowing what it will take to get there, and then developing the discipline and consistency to keep moving forward until your goals and dreams become a reality.
